Lefty’s collecting school supplies for Cape through Aug. 26
For the third year, Lefty’s Alley & Eats will be a drop-off location for school supplies for the Caravan of Caring for the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation. Regardless of where students will be participating in classes, many in the community will not be able to afford the extensive list of required school supplies. This initiative is intended to help district homeless and low-income students who come to school without paper, notebooks, pencils and other necessary supplies. CHEF welcomes new board members
The Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation has elected two community leaders, Tracy Burton Zigman and Joseph Lingo, to three-year terms on its board of directors. Burton Zigman was born and raised in Lewes and is a 1988 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School. She received a bachelor of administration degree with a concentration in marketing from Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington. She is currently head of key strategic digital partnerships for TD Bank Retail Card Services. Lingo has been a teacher in the Milford and Cape Henlopen school districts for nearly 28 years and is currently a fourth-grade teacher at H.O. Brittingham…

SoDel Concepts to give ALL April 18 proceeds to Beebe COVID-19 Relief Fund
Eleven of SoDel Concepts’ 12 restaurants, including Bluecoast Seafood Grill & Raw Bar in Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach, will participate in the April 18 fundraiser to benefit the Beebe Healthcare COVID-19 Relief Fund. Freeman Foundation donates $250K to Beebe COVID-19 Relief Fund
Recognizing the crisis surrounding the coronavirus, the Carl M. Freeman Foundation is donating $250,000 to be used for COVID-19 testing, personal protective equipment, and the well-being of frontline healthcare professionals. The foundation normally supports and promotes innovative community-based leadership and giving, but its leaders felt compelled to step outside their normal giving window for this donation. Student Meal Delivery Schedule
The Cape Henlopen School District has revised and updated the Student Meal Delivery Schedule. You can download it here. Changes/Updates are as follows: We have switched the Rehoboth Walmart delivery location to Sea Air Avenue. Meals can be picked up in the parking lot behind PNC, look for the yellow school bus. We have updated the arrival times for the locations. These are estimated times and may vary depending on traffic and how long meal handouts take at stops. Please arrive at the locations as close to the estimated times as possible.

SoDel Cares awards nearly $100,000 in grants to local nonprofits
SoDel Cares, the philanthropic arm of SoDel Concepts, recently awarded nearly $100,000 in grants to Delaware organizations. The checks were distributed Feb. 25 at the hospitality group’s corporate office in Rehoboth Beach. SoDel Concepts owns 12 restaurants in coastal Sussex County, and SoDel Cares was founded in 2015 to honor the philanthropic work of the company’s founder, the late Matt Haley. As part of its continual effort to make a difference in the community in which its members live and serve, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty’s Gallo Gives Foundation awarded donations to Delaware Hospice, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Milton Community Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, People’s Place, Immanuel Shelter and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation. CHEF holds annual Winter Jam fundraiser
The Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation held its annual Winter Jam fundraiser Feb. 7 at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach. The event featured a silent auction, raffle, food from local restaurants, and live music from Blue Label. All funds raised benefit educational programs for students in the Cape Henlopen School District, including teacher grants for unbudgeted classroom projects, support for homeless and limited-income students, STEM initiatives, performing arts education and training, and programs to promote diversity and inclusion.
